Gallery 1 - Cefalu

Top Left - Six images Crowley painted on the panels of a double-door in La Chambre des Cauchemars (Room of Nightmares) at his Abbey of Thelema. Three of these paintings were reproduced in a Picture Post magazine feature (19 October, 26 October and 02 December, 1955).

Top Right - Six images Crowley painted on the reverse panels of the same double-door. These images were created on external panels exposed to the elements, hence their noticeably diminished condition.

Bottom Left - Dr. Kinsey and Kenneth Anger pictured discussing what happened to the 'other' door, which inexplicably seems to have vanished without a trace.

Bottom Right - The same double-door as it appears today. The open window through which most visitors gain access to the Abbey is positioned just to the right (out of picture). The twelve painted panels are gone, but the double-door's right hand door has, thankfully, reappeared! Kenneth Anger's photograph is actually a montage created by sticking together halves from two completely different pictures - Can you see the join?
